Welcome to Highlights of Applied Hydraulics!

This course is geared towards the applicability of hydraulics. It starts with the development of the boundary layer in laminar and turbulent flows, and then it moves to unsteady flow in pipelines and how to perform the analysis. The phenomenon of sediment transport in mobile bed is discussed followed by the wave theory-classification and application. Finally it introduces the concept of computational hydraulics, and discusses how complex problems can be solved using this technique.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Characterize and analyze flows in rivers, around hydraulic structures and in environmental water bodies based on geometrical properties and Reynolds and Froude numbers
  • Classify the characteristics for sediment in channels and able to perform the sediment transport calculations
  • Design hydraulic structures and culvert and understand the use of the structures in applied hydraulics
  • Identify the basic equations and methods used in computational hydraulics and know what computer-aided design methods are available
